Former Texas Rangers Baseball Player Indicted, Accused of Beating 14 Year Old Daughter

Josh Hamilton, former baseball Hall of Famer of the Texas Rangers, teenage daughter accused him of beating her.  Hamilton has been slapped with a third degree felony charge of injury to a child.  Hamilton’s attorneys implies that he is innocent.

            A grand jury in Tarrant County, Texas has indicted 38-year old Josh Hamilton on Monday, April 6, 2020 on one count of injury to a child with intent of bodily harm. 

Hamilton had turned himself in to the authorities and was arrested on October 30, 2019, but he is got out on a $30,000 bond and still remains free today.  If Hamilton is convicted, he is looking at a prison sentence anywhere from two to 10 years.  This case has been delayed tentatively because of the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19).

            According to a statement by a detective of the Keller Texas Police Department, Hamilton’s daughter told the police that on September 30, 2019, her father went delirious after a comment she had made and that had agitated him.  He threw a full bottle of water at her with force, hitting her in the chest and start shouting and cursing at her.  She was sitting in one chair and resting her feet in another, he then snatched the chair from under her feet and threw it in her direction, breaking the chair, but it did not hit her.  He caught hold of her shoulders and lifted her from the chair she was sitting in, then she fell down and he picked her up and threw her over his shoulders and hauled her to her bedroom.

The daughter was pleading with her father at this point telling him how sorry she was.  He threw on onto her bed and pressed her face down into the mattress and started beating her legs with his hands and fists.  When he finished beating her, he told her that he hopes that should would go and confront a judge and tell him how horrible of a father he is so she will not be able to come to his house or see her ever again.  After the incident, Hamilton told his daughter to pack her things and get ready to go to school.

            Hamilton has three children and his is only accused of assaulting his oldest child according to the court records.  Katie, his ex-wife has filed a restraining order temporarily on the behalf of her daughter.

            Josh Hamilton had battled cocaine and alcohol addiction early in his baseball career and had relapsed many times during his baseball career.
