Donald Trump's Impeachment

  DONALD JOHN TRUMP'S IMPEACHMENT

In 2019, a whistleblower, in the United States Intelligence Community, had accused Donald Trump of a telephone conversation between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky implying that Trump had colluded with Zelensky to help with his United States re-election in the 2020 presidential election, and he had frozen $250 million or more in military aid as leverage to the Ukraine.  The whistleblower's statement: "In the course of my official duties, I have received information from multiple U.S. Government officials that the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.  This interference includes, among other things, pressuring a foreign country to investigate one of the President's main domestic political rivals. The President's personal lawyer, Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, is a central figure in this effort.  Attorney General Barr appears to be involved as well" (Washington Post 2019).  The telephone conversation had been revealed that it included quid pro quo for political gain.

The House has begun talking impeachment because they believed that Trump may have colluded with the Ukrainians after all.  Donald Trump is the third United States President to be impeached by the House of Representatives.

Trump had made many efforts to obstruct investigations: he kept investigators from looking into his campaign by limiting their inquiries to find out if the Russian's interfered in the 2016 election, he abused his presidency for personal gain, he influenced and threatened witnesses from providing Congress with the correct answers, he tells his administration to ignore any subpoenas, etc.

The Senate's impeachment trial began on January16, 2020.  The Republicans had submitted many witnesses, but there were some high profile witness that did not testify and they should have testified, like Joe Biden and his son Hunter, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, Trump's lawyer, Rudi Giuliani, VP Mike Pence, and the whistleblower.

One thing for sure, the Republicans were not going impeach Trump for political reasons.  The Republicans controlled the House and no Republicans were going to testify against Trump to impeach him if they wanted to stay in the White House.

On February 8, 2020, the three week impeachment trial was over, Trump was acquitted by the GOP-controlled senate on abusing his political powers in office and not making any attempts to pressure Ukraine.
