CNN
POLITICAL NEWS COMMENTATOR CONNECTED
TO CRYSTAL METH INCIDENT
Andrew Gillum, 40, a CNN political news
commentator and former candidate for Florida democratic governor, was found
under the influence of a substance unknown, early Friday morning, March 13,
2020 at the Mondrian South Beach Hotel.
Gillum was in a room accompanied by two other men, Aldo Mejas, a 56 year
old, unlicensed physician and Travis Dyson, 30, a registered nurse who was
suspected of a drug overdosed when the police arrived. Mejias was performing chest compressions on
Dyson until the paramedics came. The
police recovered three small clear plastic bags that appeared to be crystal
meth on the bed and on the floor of the hotel room.
Mejias called the police when Dysons
went into cardiac arrest. He told the
police he gave Dyson his credit card to use for one night and he had stopped by
the hotel around 11:00 p.m., Thursday night.
He said Dyson opened the door,
and went to the bed and collapse and Gillum was in the bathroom vomiting.
The contents in the plastic bags
that were found in the hotel room have not yet been confirmed as crystal
meth. It is assumed to be crystal meth
because crystal meth has returned to Miami Beach stronger and more dangerous
than ever; a high grade product made by the Mexican cartels.
Where they do their partying is a very
customer-rich environment, with all types of different parties going on at
various venues for people to wants to enjoy themselves. Crystal meth is known to take an ordinary
party experience and magnify it by ten times.
Paramedics had treated Travis Dyson for a
heart attack and then he was taken to the Mount Sinai Medical Center and was
hospitalized, but was in stabled condition.
Gillum was allowed to return home because he was too wasted to answer
any questions. The police did not make
an incident report nor were there any arrests and no arrests are to be
expected. The drugs that were recovered from
the hotel were impounded.
Days later, Gillum released his first
statement indicating he had too much to drink and never used methamphetamines;
he was in Miami to celebrate a wedding.
Dyson mentioned to the reporters that he was not there to celebrate a
wedding and Gillum never mentioned to him that he was, so he is not at liberty
to say for sure if Gillum was in town for a wedding or not.
Gillum
told police he was going to spend some quality time with his family over the
next few weeks. Gillum is married to R.
Jai, who was not travelling with him at the time. He is the father of a set of twins, Caroline
and Jackson Gillum and a baby boy Davis Gillum.
Travis Dyson has been engaged to Luis Antonio, Jr. since August 2018.
Gillum was also the former mayor of
Tallahassee, Florida from 2014 through 2018 and following his 2018 lost for
governor to Republican Ron DeSantis; Gillum remains a prominent player for the
Democrats in the state of Florida and socializes with the most well-known
Democrats.
